Discreet Delivery Explained: Packaging, Tracking, and Receiving Your Order
October 25, 2026
When ordering a personal product, you want to know how it will be packaged, what delivery information you will receive, and what to do when it arrives.
At Tangle Joy, discreet delivery means keeping the exterior packaging free of promotional branding and explicit product descriptions, while providing the information needed to track and receive your shipment.
This guide explains what to expect from the packaging, how shipping updates work, why customs documents are different from exterior branding, and how to handle a damaged parcel.
1. What Does Discreet Packaging Look Like?
Your order may arrive in a plain cardboard carton or an outer package secured with packing tape or protective wrapping. The appearance can vary by product, manufacturer, warehouse, and dispatch location.
The exterior is intended to avoid drawing attention to the contents. It does not display Tangle Joy promotional branding or explicit product descriptions.
However, discreet packaging still needs the labels required for delivery. Depending on the shipment, these may include:
- The recipient’s name and delivery address
- A return or sender address
- A tracking number and shipping barcode
- Carrier handling labels
- Required customs documentation
Discreet packaging does not mean a parcel has no shipping information. It means the exterior avoids unnecessary promotional or explicit details.
If you have specific concerns about the packaging or sender information, contact us before ordering so we can check the arrangements available for your selected product.
2. How Is the Product Protected Inside?
Inside the outer package, protective materials help support the product and limit movement during transport.
Depending on the item and packing method, these may include protective bags, foam inserts, padding, or other supports. Accessories may be placed in separate sections or packages.
The exact arrangement varies. Photos of one packed order should be treated as an example rather than a promise that every shipment will use identical materials or positioning.
When unpacking, work slowly and keep track of smaller components. Check the protective materials before discarding them, as accessories may be packed alongside the main item.

3. Exterior Packaging and Customs Documents Are Different
An unbranded outer box and a customs declaration serve different purposes.
The outer packaging helps protect the shipment and avoids unnecessary product advertising. Customs documents provide information required by the authorities handling an international shipment.
Where required, declarations must accurately describe the shipment and include the relevant value and other information. Discreet delivery does not involve false descriptions, understated values, or removing legally required documents.
Customs authorities may inspect a shipment. Required documentation may also be visible to carriers or attached to the parcel.
For these reasons, we cannot promise that the contents will remain unknown to everyone involved in transportation or customs clearance.
If your order crosses an international border, please check that the product can legally be imported into your destination. Contact us before purchasing if you need clarification about the shipping arrangements.
4. Your Dispatch Location Depends on the Product
Tangle Joy is based in Toronto, but the dispatch location depends on the doll you choose and where it is available.
If the selected doll is available in our Ontario stock, we can ship it locally. Otherwise, we usually arrange for it to ship directly from China to your delivery address.
Please ask us to confirm availability and the expected dispatch location for the specific item you are considering. Our Toronto location does not mean every order ships from Canada.
The dispatch location can affect the courier, delivery estimate, and whether international customs processing is involved.
For current shipping information, see our Shipping & Delivery Policy.
5. How Will I Receive My Tracking Information?
Once your order is dispatched, we email your tracking information. Tracking details are normally provided within three business days after dispatch.
Keep your order confirmation and shipping notification so you can find your order number and tracking reference when needed.
If you cannot find the shipping email:
- Check your spam, junk, or promotions folder.
- Confirm that you are checking the email address used at checkout.
- Contact service@tanglejoy.com with your order number.
For custom orders, production and pre-shipment photo review happen before dispatch. You may therefore receive order updates before a tracking number is available.
For more detail about these stages, read What Happens After You Order from Tangle Joy?.

Why Is My Tracking Number Not Updating?
A tracking number may be issued before the courier completes its first scan. Updates can also pause while a shipment moves between facilities or goes through customs.
Check the carrier’s latest tracking information rather than relying only on the original delivery estimate.
If tracking has not changed for several business days, or the carrier asks you to take action, contact us so we can help review the shipment status. A pause in tracking does not, by itself, confirm that a parcel is lost.
6. Plan Ahead for Receiving Your Order
Before checkout, make sure your delivery address is complete and accurate. Include an apartment or unit number where applicable, and use contact information through which you can receive delivery updates.
If you notice an address error, contact us immediately. Address changes may be restricted once an order has been prepared or dispatched, and a request is not confirmed until it has been accepted.
As delivery approaches:
- Monitor tracking for changes to the expected arrival date.
- Check whether the courier requires a signature.
- Review any building access or reception arrangements.
- Make sure you can safely receive and move the parcel.
- Follow any instructions sent directly by the carrier.
Some products and packages can be heavy or awkward to handle. Check the available package information and arrange assistance if needed.
Will a Signature Be Required?
Signature requirements depend on the carrier, service, destination, and shipment. Please check your tracking page or delivery notice rather than assuming the parcel can be left unattended.
Requests for a delivery appointment, pickup location, rerouting, or alternative delivery date are subject to the carrier’s available services. They cannot be guaranteed for every shipment.
What if I Miss the Delivery?
Follow the carrier’s instructions promptly. The parcel may be held for collection or another delivery attempt before being returned.
If you cannot reach the carrier, or tracking suggests the parcel may be returned, contact us with your order number and tracking reference.
7. Check the Outer Package Before Opening
When your order arrives, look over the exterior before removing the wrapping or tape.
Check for:
- Significant crushing or deformation
- Punctures or tears
- Wet areas
- Open seams or damaged sealing tape
- Any other visible sign that the package may have been compromised
Minor scuffs on an outer carton do not necessarily mean the contents are damaged. At the same time, visible damage should be documented before unpacking.
Take clear photos of the full parcel and any affected areas. Keep the shipping label in your private records for support purposes.
Do not post an unredacted shipping label online. It may contain your name, address, tracking number, barcodes, or other shipment information.

Check the corners, seams, sealing tape, and outer surface before opening your parcel. Background edited for presentation; handwritten markings obscured.
8. What to Do if the Box Arrives Damaged
If the outer package is damaged, document its condition before changing or discarding anything.
Where possible, take photos of:
- The full exterior of the parcel
- The damaged area from more than one angle
- The shipping label
- The internal protective materials as you unpack
- Any affected area of the product
If a courier representative is present, ask how to record visible damage under the carrier’s delivery procedure. If you are considering refusing the parcel, check the carrier’s instructions and contact us promptly for guidance rather than assuming refusal automatically starts a refund.
Keep the carton, wrapping, foam, protective bags, and other packing materials while the issue is being reviewed.
If the product appears damaged, defective, incorrect, or materially different from your confirmed order, contact us within 48 hours of delivery, before using it, as described in our Returns & Cancellations Policy.
Send your order number, a brief explanation, and the relevant photos to service@tanglejoy.com.
The next steps depend on the confirmed issue and the applicable policy. We’ll review the photos and shipment details, then explain the next steps based on the issue and our published policy.
9. Unpack Carefully and Check the Contents
Use care when opening the parcel. Avoid pushing a knife or other sharp tool deeply into the box, as the product or protective bag may sit close to the surface.
Once open, compare the contents with your confirmed order. Check the main item, selected configuration, and included accessories.
If something appears missing, inspect the packing materials and check whether your shipping emails show more than one parcel. Some orders may arrive in separate packages.
If you still cannot locate an item, contact us with photos of what you received and the relevant packaging. Keep everything until the issue has been reviewed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will the Outside of the Package Say What I Bought?
The exterior avoids promotional branding and explicit product descriptions. Shipping labels and legally required customs documents may still contain information needed for delivery and clearance.
Will Every Order Arrive in the Same Type of Box?
No. Packaging can vary by product, manufacturer, dispatch location, and shipping requirements. Packaging photos illustrate examples rather than a single format used for all orders.
Does Discreet Packaging Mean There Are No Customs Documents?
No. International shipments must include the documentation required for the route and destination. Discreet packaging does not override customs requirements.
Can I Choose Where My Order Ships From?
Contact us before purchasing to check the stock location for your selected item. Availability determines which dispatch options can be offered.
Can You Guarantee That My Parcel Will Be Left Without a Signature?
No. Signature and delivery requirements depend on the carrier and shipment. Check the tracking information and contact the carrier about any available arrangements.
What if the Box Is Damaged but the Product Looks Fine?
Photograph the exterior damage and inspect the contents carefully. Keep the packaging while completing your checks. If you notice a product issue, contact us promptly within the reporting period set out in our policy.
